A rare opportunity to purchase this fabulous quality mahogany bedroom set which was commissioned by Sir William Bailey for Sale Hall near Manchester, England. William Bailey was a key figure in the industrial revolution, a key promoter of the Manchester Ship Canal, he was knighted by Queen Victoria on the Royal yacht in 1894. He was a Justice of the peace for the county of Lancashire.
Accompanying this beautiful bedroom set is a photograph album of Sale Hall and written information relating to William Bailey. This amazing bedroom set was made by W Allwood of Bowden for William Bailey for Sale Hall circa 1885. The bedroom set consists of a stunning wardrobe, a linen cupboard/wardrobe, dressing table and a marble top washstand which is all made in glorious solid mahogany.
The unique wardrobe has an oversailing cornice with dental carved decoration, below to the left is a full length bevel edged mirrored door with carving above. The door opens to reveal a shelf above a brass hanging rail with brass hooks. The central section and right-hand section has unique coloured glass doors. The glass depicting flowers. The central carved door opens to reveal a brass hanging rail with brass hooks. The right side coloured glass door are three long drawers each with brass handle above the three drawers is a carved shaped secret drawer. The wardrobe sits on bracket feet.
The linen cupboard has a dental carved decorated cornice which sits above a pair of carved panelled doors, the doors open to reveal a brass rail with brass hooks, below is a short drawer with brass handle which sits above the panelled cupboard. To the right are three long drawers each with a pair of brass handles.
The dressing table has a shield bevelled mirror which sits inside carved leaf decorated supports with two drawers below, each drawer having a brass handle. Central drawer is flanked by four graduated drawers. The dressing table sits on bracket feet.
The washstand has a shaped carved back with a marble insert which sits above two short and three long drawers. The drawers having brass handles. The washstand sits on bracket feet.
